Step 1 Books

* MOST popular Step 1      * My favorite Step 1 book.
  review book!  Love it!        Same content as First Aid,
                                            outline style.  Has GREAT
                                            "Bugs and Drugs" tables in
                                            the back.

HIGHEST YIELD: Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Microbiology, and                                      Biochemistry

Pathology

Pharmacology

* I really liked this book.      * Long, at 559 pages.         * If you're a flash card
Key information on the          But has detailed charts      person, these "Pharm
main meds in each class.      and tables, as in                Cards" are great for
                                              Lippincott: Biochemistry.     memorizing!

* GREAT book to use during
the pharmacology course.
Long, but very easy to understand.
This is the "Examination and
Board Review" version of Katzung.

Physiology

** EXCELLENT book!!         * 2007, 240 pages.  I
The best review book          recommend BRS Physiology
for Physiology.                     for board review, since physio
                                            is high yield on the Boards.
                                            Use "High Yield" if you want
                                            a quick review or have limited
                                            time.

Microbiology/Immuno

* Basically EVERY second-    * I haven't used this one.  ** 2005, 99 pages!  Woohoo!
year student uses this book.   MMRS (left) is best.

Biochemistry

* Has excellent charts,                                                   * Good as a supplement;
pathways, and tables.                                                      but need something more
                                                                                      complete for Step 1 (BRS,
                                                                                      Lippencott).

MEDIUM YIELD: Anatomy, Embryology, and Neuroscience

Anatomy

* 2007 edition: 352 pages.  * 2001 edition: 190 pages.

Embryology

* 2006: 208 pages.  Fast        * For a course, this book
reading.  Embryo is not high  provides a thorough review.
yield on the Boards, so          But at 304 pages, it's too
either read this one or use     long for strictly Step 1
the embryology section of      studying.
First Aid.

Neuroscience

* At 160 pages, it's a good
length for Step 1 review and
complete enough for the
Neuroscience course.

LOWER YIELD (but still study!): Histology/Cell Biology, Behavioral Science,
                                                            and Epidemiology/Biostatistics

Histology/Cell Biology

                                           * 2006, 254 pages.             * 1999, 128 pages.

Behavioral Science

* 2008.  At 160 pages, this     * 2001, 144 pages.
book is the perfect length
for the often "blown-off"
topic of Behavioral Science.
Great book!

Epidemiology/Biostats

* 2004, 128 pages.  Great
review for Boards.
